Jansamarth is a not for profit organisation, set up to construct environmentally friendly micro-hydroelectric plants in villages, where no grid line passed through.
In the last three decades under the leadership of Yogeshwar Kumar, Jansamarth has constructed micro-hydroelectric plants in the highlands of Uttarakhand, in villages where state electricity had not reached. It is a simple technology, in which turbines run on snow, melting waters to generate electricity - a technique that not just generates power but also empowers people.
The plants are community run with the local villagers in charge of operations, maintenance and even bill collections.
